Instant Upload settings from your phone
After you’ve enabled Instant Upload, you can manage how and when photos and videos from your phone are uploaded to a private web album on Google+.
If you’re using an Android 4.0 device, learn about how your Sync Google Photos setting works with Instant Upload.
Manage Instant Upload settings
To open your Instant Upload settings, go to Menu > Settings from the Home screen.
Enable Instant Upload
Select this option to enable Instant Upload on your phone. When selected, photos and videos you take on your phone will be uploaded to a private album on Google+.
When to upload photos
Manage which type of connection is used to upload your photos:
- Over Wi-Fi or mobile network: Allow photo uploads when you’re connected to a mobile network or Wi-Fi. Uploading over a mobile network will use your data connection and may cost you money.
- Over Wi-Fi only: Only upload photos when you’re connected to Wi-Fi.
When to upload videos
Manage which type of connection is used to upload your videos:
- Over Wi-Fi or mobile network: Allow video uploads when you’re connected to your mobile network or Wi-Fi. Uploading over a mobile network will use your data connection and may cost you money.
- Over Wi-Fi only: Only upload videos when you’re connected to WiFi.
Note: Videos are uploaded via Wi-Fi by default, even if you selected “Over Wi-Fi or mobile network” when signing in for the first time.
Enabling this allows photo and video while you’re roaming on a mobile data network.
When this option is selected, photos and videos will upload using your phone’s battery power. You may want to uncheck this option to improve your phone’s battery life.
This will immediately start uploading all the photos and videos you currently have on your phone.
Note: When you select Upload all, photos and videos will be uploaded using your mobile data connection, even if you’re using Instant Upload over Wi-Fi only.
